Baseball Game Preview: Strongsville Mustangs vs. Mentor Cardinals

For the second straight game, Strongsville will face off against Mentor. The Mustangs will head out to face off against the Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Strongsville's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Mentor's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Strongsville had been on a four-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Mentor put an end to it on Monday. The Mustangs fell 7-2 to the Cardinals. Mustangs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cardinals since on Monday.

For Mentor's part, they got a great performance from Pat Collins as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Collins has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mentor let Brayden Bortnick and Tyson Cendrowski run wild. Bortnick went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Cendrowski went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Bortnick has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Wieland, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Mentor has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Strongsville, they moved to 13-4 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
