Baseball Recap: Williamsville South Comes Up Short

Williamsville South had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-4 to make it four. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hamburg Bulldogs. The match marked the Billies' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

As for Hamburg, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-2-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Hamburg's part, Kohl Schaefer tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits.

On the hitting side, Hamburg saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jimmy Steffen, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

While Williamsville South had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
