Basketball Game Preview: Plainfield South Cougars vs. Plainfield Central Wildcats

Plainfield South and Plainfield Central are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Cougars duke it out with the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Plainfield South has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 202 points over their last three games.

Plainfield South is headed into the match having just posted their biggest victory since December 26, 2024 on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Plainfield East 66-37. The Cougars have beaten the Bengals the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bengals has come to flipping the script.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Plainfield South to victory, but perhaps none more so than Layla Lesure, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Lesure is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Tierra Abner, who went 8 for 16 to rack up 19 points along with five assists and three steals.

Plainfield South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 14 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Plainfield Central came up short against Evergreen Park on Saturday and fell 43-33. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Mustangs 14-8 in the first quarter.

Plainfield South's win bumped their record up to 12-16. As for Plainfield Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-21.

Everything went Plainfield South's way against Plainfield Central in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as Plainfield South made off with a 52-30 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Plainfield South since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
