Basketball Recap: Jasiah 'Jo Jo' Gilchrist and Madisen Jackson Secure Win for Richmond Senior

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Richmond Senior ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top against the Westover Wolverines by a score of 55-48. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won three in a row.

Leading Richmond Senior to victory were Madisen Jackson and Jasiah 'Jo Jo' Gilchrist. Jackson dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards, while Gilchrist posted 20 points along with six assists and six rebounds. That's the most points Gilchrist has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of J'Nasia Neal, who earned five points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Westover's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ja'Naisha Carney, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine steals. Carney is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Dahliyanna Baldwin was another key player, putting up eight points along with five assists and five steals.

The win got Richmond Senior back to even at 1-1. As for Westover, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Looking ahead, Richmond Senior will venture away from home to square off against Scotland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westover, they will take on Hoke County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
