Basketball Recap: Mariah Harris' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Warren County over Wilson Prep

Warren County lost against Wilson Prep last Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Warren County Eagles lost to the Wilson Prep Tigers on the road by a 59-42 margin. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 360th, while the Tigers are ranked 100th).

Warren County lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Mariah Harris, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Amari Freeman, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Warren County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

Paris Best continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Wilson Prep, going 10-for-22 en route to 27 points and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiden Brown, who went 7-for-13 on her way to 15 points.

Warren County's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Wilson Prep, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-1.

Warren County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-38 win against Rocky Mount Prep on the 14th. As for Wilson Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-23 victory against Southeast Halifax on the 14th.
