Basketball Recap: Maya Shotwell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dekaney over Westfield

After flying high against Aldine last Tuesday, Dekaney came back down to earth. The Dekaney Wildcats came up short against the Westfield Mustangs on Friday, falling 55-33. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-7 back in December of 2024.

Dekaney lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Maya Shotwell, who posted 11 points.

Dekaney's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Westfield, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-4.

Dekaney wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 50-38 defeat against Benjamin Davis on the 22nd. As for Westfield, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-53 loss against Nimitz on the 22nd.
