Basketball Game Preview: Simpson Academy Cougars vs. Pillow Academy Mustangs

The Simpson Academy Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Pillow Academy Mustangs at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

It was a proper cat-fight when Simpson Academy took on Wayne Academy on Thursday. Simpson Academy claimed a resounding 69-30 victory over Wayne Academy. The Cougars pushed the score to 60-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Jaguars cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, Pillow Academy had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.4 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They blew past the Colts 65-32. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Colts are ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pillow Academy pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26.8 points. As for Simpson Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.

Simpson Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Pillow Academy in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 61-57 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Simpson Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
