Softball Recap: Mansfield Tigers vs. Lamar Warriors
If Mansfield was feeling good fresh off their 18-2 takedown of West Fork last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers fell just short of the Lamar Warriors by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.
Daisy Nelson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She also put up a home run, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Bailey Quick, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Mansfield's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5. As for Lamar, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.
Coming up, Mansfield will head out to take on Acorn at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lamar, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Perryville at 4:30 p.m. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 1.1 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
