Basketball Game Preview: Mountain Pointe Pride vs. Maricopa Rams

Mountain Pointe is on a four-game streak of home losses, Maricopa a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season, but someone's luck will change on Wednesday. The Mountain Pointe Pride will welcome the Maricopa Rams at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 62-30, which was the final score in Mountain Pointe's tilt against Campo Verde on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Pride can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Coyotes are ranked 28th).

Meanwhile, Maricopa played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Cibola 64-25. The Rams were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-11.

Despite the defeat, Maricopa saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kaliha Norwood posted 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenifer Gordoa, who put up two points along with six rebounds and four blocks.

Maricopa's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Mountain Pointe, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

Mountain Pointe was able to grind out a solid win over Maricopa in their previous matchup back in January of 2022, winning 32-25. Does Mountain Pointe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Maricopa turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
