Baseball Recap: Valley's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Valley's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Cibola Cougars by a score of 8-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Zaid Alomari spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Jayden Martinez was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Valley is 4-1 when Martinez posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zach Toledo, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Valley's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Cibola, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.

Looking ahead, Valley is taking a road trip to face off against Bloomfield at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bloomfield will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last. As for Cibola, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Cibola Cougars duke it out with Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in their favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Atrisco Heritage Academy has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
