Softball Recap: Sylmar Comes Up Short

If Sylmar was feeling good fresh off their 20-3 takedown of Canoga Park on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Spartans lost 9-2 to the King/Drew Golden Eagles on Saturday. The Spartans were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matches prior), but the Golden Eagles' pitchers proved too tough.

Melanie Andrade made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. She has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times she's played. Maya Salceda also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

With the defeat, Sylmar broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-6. As for King/Drew, their win bumped their record up to 5-11.

Sylmar didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-5 loss against Poly on the 5th. As for King/Drew, they will challenge Port of Los Angeles at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Polar Bears have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
