Basketball Recap: Lake Norman Charter Extends Winning Streak to Three

Lake Norman Charter had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 66-55 win over the Central Cabarrus Vikings. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered a 64-40 loss the last time these two teams met.

Lake Norman Charter got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Caroline Mercuri out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Mercuri a new career-high in steals (eight). Abby Courtney was another key player, going 10 for 17 on her way to 25 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Lake Norman Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, Central Cabarrus had strong showings from Myajah Nix, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Daniyah Burton, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Burton's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Louella Blanchard, who posted seven points.

Lake Norman Charter's record now sits at 8-4. As for Central Cabarrus, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Lake Norman Charter wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 72-56 loss against East Rowan on the 7th. As for Central Cabarrus, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-32 win against West Rowan on the 7th.
