Basketball Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. River City Raiders
The Kennedy Cougars will head out on the road to take on the River City Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Kennedy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Monterey Trail at home and fell 71-44. While losing is never fun, Kennedy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 38th).
The losing side was boosted by Dondre Prothro, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Aharon Young was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, River City pushed their score all the way to 57 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 69-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Laguna Creek. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for River City in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now lost five in a row.
Kennedy has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season. As for River City, their loss dropped their record down to 9-15.
Everything came up roses for Kennedy against the Raiders in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 80-51 victory. With Kennedy ahead 52-26 at the half, the game was all but over already.
