Basketball Recap: Aubrey Carder's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Millard South over Lincoln North Star

If Millard South was riding high fresh off their 67-29 takedown of Benson last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Millard South Patriots took a hard 49-30 fall against the Lincoln North Star Navigators on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Millard South lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Aubrey Carder, who posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbi Durow, who scored 11 points.

Even though they lost, Millard South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive matchups.

Lincoln North Star's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ani Leu, who went 7-for-11 on her way to 17 points along with seven boards and four steals. Sarah Gatwech was another key player, shooting 50% from the field en route to 16 points.

Millard South's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Lincoln North Star, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Millard South wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-49 victory against Lincoln East on the 26th. As for Lincoln North Star, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-20 win against Omaha Northwest on the 26th.
