Football Recap: Covenant Christian Takes a Loss

Covenant Christian had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-7 to make it five. They were outmatched by the Speedway Sparkplugs and fell 40-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Warriors were not able to get on the board.

Luke Gillespie threw for 54 yards on seven of 11 attempts. Caleb Jankowski was his top target, picking up 33 receiving yards. On the ground, Tyson Hall rushed for 28 yards.

Speedway's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-8. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

Speedway's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Logan Moore, who threw for 116 yards and three TDs. The dominant performance also gave Moore a new career-high in passer rating (120.5). Mazeed Ishola was in the mix as well, providing Speedway with three scores.

Covenant Christian and Speedway are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Warriors will welcome Indianapolis Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Saints will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Covenant Christian surely won't give up without a fight. As for Speedway, they will head out to take on Crawfordsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
