Baseball Recap: Minnesota Valley Lutheran Comes Up Short

Minnesota Valley Lutheran had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 8-6 to make it four. They fell just short of the Maple River Eagles by a score of 1-0. That's two games in a row now that the Chargers have lost by just one run.

Joshua Vander Plas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Minnesota Valley Lutheran saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Sexton, who went 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple was Sexton's first of the season.

As for Maple River, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

On Maple River's side, the result came thanks to Caleb Thompson's shutout, as he gave up just four hits.

Looking ahead, Minnesota Valley Lutheran is taking a road trip to take on Sleepy Eye at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Maple River, they will welcome New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
