Baseball Recap: Girard Victorious

Girard won the last time they faced Corry and things went their way on Thursday too. The Yellowjackets walked away with a 5-2 win over the Beavers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Yellowjackets.

Joe Ferretti made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 6.2 innings pitched. Ferretti was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Ryan St. Julien and Liam Dunfee did most of the damage at the plate: St. Julien went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Dunfee went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Dunfee a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Levi Potter, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Girard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corry only managed four.

Girard's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Corry, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Girard is set to face off against their familiar foe Conneaut Area at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Corry will take on rival North East at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
