Baseball Recap: Girard Victorious

Girard won the last time they faced Corry and things went their way on Thursday too. The Yellowjackets walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Beavers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Yellowjackets.

Joe Ferretti made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Girard let Ryan St. Julien and Liam Dunfee run wild. St. Julien went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Dunfee went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Dunfee a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Potter, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Girard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Girard's record now sits at 8-5. As for Corry, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Girard is set to square off against their familiar foe Conneaut Area at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Corry will take on rival North East at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
