Basketball Recap: Wilcox County Comes Up Short

Wilcox County suffered their biggest loss since December 20, 2024 on Monday. They were dealt a 71-36 defeat at the hands of the Crisp County Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 491st, while the Cougars are ranked 186th).

Zakariyya Dwight was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds for Crisp County. Dwight's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Courtney Oliver 4, who posted eight points and ten steals.

The loss snapped Wilcox County's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-11 record. As for Crisp County, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Wilcox County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Wheeler County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Wheeler County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests. As for Crisp County, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against Cook at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
