Softball Recap: Warren Central Drops Highest Score of Season Against Pike

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Warren Central). They blew past the Pike Red Devils 20-5 on Tuesday. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Jordyn Dever made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalie Hiliard, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Jordan Warbinton was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Warren Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Warren Central's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-6. As for Pike, their defeat was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Warren Central will host Anderson at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pike, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory at 5:30 p.m. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Braves have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
