Basketball Recap: Southwood Falls Despite Big Games from Isabelle Ashba and Hali Pershing

Southwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 44-20 to the Lewis Cass Kings. The match marked the Knights' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Southwood's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Hali Pershing, who posted nine points and three steals, and Isabelle Ashba, who earned three points in addition to five boards and four steals. Ashba has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played.

Even though they lost, Southwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

Aftin Griffin was the offensive standout of the match as she went 6 of 12 en route to 18 points and five steals. Anna Hedrick was another key player, putting up six points along with nine rebounds and five steals.

Southwood's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Lewis Cass, their win bumped their record up to 14-6.

Southwood will head out on the road to face off against Southern Wells at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lewis Cass has already played their next game (against Logansport), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
