Basketball Recap: Ten Straight Road Wins for Breese Central

Breese Central had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.2 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They strolled past the Okawville Rockets with points to spare, taking the game 47-30. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Rockets are ranked 108th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the defeat, Okawville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jilien Harre posted eight points and four steals. With that strong performance, Harre is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game.

Breese Central pushed their record up to 26-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.9 points over those games. As for Okawville, their loss dropped their record down to 17-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Breese Central will take on Freeburg at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Okawville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Nashville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Nashville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Okawville likes a good challenge.
