Basketball Recap: Nelsonville-York Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Madi Pidcock and Alayna Okulich

Nelsonville-York lost against Alexander two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes took a 52-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Alexander Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Buckeyes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 548th, while the Spartans are ranked 263rd).

Despite the defeat, Nelsonville-York had strong showings from Alayna Okulich, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Madi Pidcock, who put up 16 points and five boards.

Alexander's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaylee Hudnall led the charge by putting up 14 points and seven steals. Hudnall is becoming a predictor of Alexander's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Lily Ryder, who scored 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Nelsonville-York's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Alexander, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-7.

Nelsonville-York wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-28 defeat against Huntington on the 4th. As for Alexander, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-10 victory against Meigs on the 4th.
