Basketball Recap: Hamshire-Fannett Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Hamshire-Fannett can now relate to. They took a 42-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bridge City Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 47-28 back in November of 2024.

Hamshire-Fannett's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Olivia Moore, who went 7-for-15 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds, and Reese Speight, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. The matchup was Moore's seventh in a row with at least 17 points.

Bridge City's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaylee Britten, who posted 14 points and five boards. Britten is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 13 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Campbell, who earned 12 points.

Hamshire-Fannett's loss dropped their record down to 28-10. As for Bridge City, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 35-3 record this season.

Hamshire-Fannett does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bridge City, they will challenge Cuero at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Cuero sitting on 19 straight wins and Bridge City on 11.
