Softball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is East Chambers' Seventh in Last Nine Outings

East Chambers was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Hardin on Tuesday. The East Chambers Buccaneers put the hurt on the Hardin Hornets with a sharp 14-5 win. Considering the Buccaneers have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Hailey Hjelle made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last five matchups. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, Emily Vratis and Marley Morgan did most of the damage at the plate: Vratis scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-5, while Morgan went 3-for-5 with three RBI. That's the most hits Morgan has posted since back in March of 2024. Zoe Selby was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

East Chambers kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

East Chambers is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. Hardin is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Chambers will head out to square off against Kirbyville at 6:30 p.m. on March 18th. As for Hardin, they will take on Kountze at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
