Basketball Game Preview: Steele Knights vs. United Longhorns

The Steele Knights will take on the United Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Steele took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against San Marcos by a score of 62-49.

Meanwhile, United fought the good fight in their overtime game against Alexander on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 75-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (65), the Longhorns still had to take the loss.

Steele will have to contain Evali Idrogo as she made an impact in United's last game. She went 7 of 13 en route to 23 points along with five assists and five boards. That's the most points Idrogo has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alejandra Idrogo, who put up 21 points in addition to four blocks and three steals.

Even though they lost, United smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.

Steele is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points over those games. As for United, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-15.

Steele was able to grind out a solid win over United in their previous matchup back in November of 2020, winning 71-59. Does Steele have another victory up their sleeve, or will United turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
