Softball Recap: Cumberland Takes a Loss

Cumberland came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Sullivan Redskins, falling 12-4. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Ashton Tolen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Schnepper, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Cumberland's loss dropped their record down to 10-17. As for Sullivan, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season.

Cumberland and Sullivan are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Pirates will head out on the road to take on Paris at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Cumberland's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Sullivan, they will challenge Shelbyville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
