Football Game Preview: Freehold Township Patriots vs. Old Bridge Knights

The Freehold Township Patriots will face off against the Old Bridge Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Freehold Township and Manalapan meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Patriots were outmatched by the Braves and fell 37-7. The contest marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

The losing side was boosted by Jake Schultzel, who picked up 122 receiving yards and one score. He has become a key player for Freehold Township: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least 80 receiving yards, but 1-3 otherwise.

Even if they lost, Freehold Township's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: David Sarcone, Johnathan Kokotis, and Dominick Fiore, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, Old Bridge had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.2 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 42-22 margin over the Patriots. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 20 points or more this season.

Freehold Township moved to 5-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Old Bridge, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
