Baseball Recap: West Jessamine Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but West Jessamine unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 10-4 to the Frederick Douglass Broncos. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Colts of the 10-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

West Jessamine got a good showing from Kaden Floyd, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The Colts are 2-1 when Floyd allows two or fewer earned runs, but 5-12-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Hayden Brock made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Hershey, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

West Jessamine's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13-1. As for Frederick Douglass, they pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.

West Jessamine and Frederick Douglass could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings. The Colts will challenge Woodford County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (112 vs. 25). Meanwhile, Frederick Douglass (ranked 60th) will meet Scott County (ranked seventh) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
