Basketball Preview: Twentynine Palms Wildcats vs. Big Bear Bears
Having just played yesterday, the Twentynine Palms Wildcats will get right back to it and host the Big Bear Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It was a proper cat-fight when Twentynine Palms duked it out with Canyon Springs on Tuesday. The Wildcats walked away with a 54-47 victory over the Cougars.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Big Bear). They took down Excelsior Charter 86-68 on Monday. The win was nothing new for the Bears as they're now sitting on three straight.
Big Bear had a senior duo take command as Logan Barden shot 60% from beyond the arc on his way to 28 points in addition to seven boards and three blocks and Savion Sorapuru dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Barden now owns an excellent 51.1% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Ricky Alvarez, who posted nine points along with six assists and five boards.
Big Bear was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.
Big Bear's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Twentynine Palms, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Twentynine Palms came up short against Big Bear when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 69-56.
