Basketball Game Preview: Lovington Wildcats vs. Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls

Lovington hasn't had much luck against Carlsbad recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Lovington Wildcats will face off against the Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls at 5:30 p.m. Lovington knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Carlsbad likes a good challenge.

Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Lovington beat Tatum 62-57.

Meanwhile, Carlsbad unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 43-33 to Centennial.

Lovington is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points per game. As for Carlsbad, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-3.

Lovington came up short against Carlsbad when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 43-34. Can Lovington avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
