Baseball Recap: Evergreen Valley Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Leland, Evergreen Valley was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Ann Sobrato Bulldogs 7-5. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 9-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Evergreen Valley got a great performance from Giovanni De Vincentis as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, De Vincentis posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Evergreen Valley let Jake Cacciaroni and Liam Chang run wild. Cacciaroni went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base, while Chang went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Cacciaroni is becoming a predictor of Evergreen Valley's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 4-1 (and 6-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Lam, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Evergreen Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win got Evergreen Valley back to even at 10-10. As for Ann Sobrato, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-7.

Evergreen Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
