Softball Preview: Saranac Spartans vs. Saranac Lake Red Storm

Saranac has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Saranac Lake Red Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Saranac knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy run totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Saranac Lake likes a good challenge.

Saranac is hoping to deliver their fans another blowout on Monday, just like they did against Northeastern Clinton (and have done all season long). Saranac put the hurt on Northeastern Clinton with a sharp 12-1 win on Thursday.

Abby Owen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered one run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in four consecutive pitching appearances.

Meanwhile, Saranac Lake came into Saturday's match having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Moriah on Saturday as Saranac Lake made off with a 10-4 victory.

Saranac pushed their record up to 6-0 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Saranac Lake, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 1-5.
