Football Recap: Modesto Christian Comes Up Short

If Modesto Christian was riding high fresh off their 26-0 takedown of Millennium last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Crusaders were dealt a 57-22 loss at the hands of the Armijo Royals on Friday. The Crusaders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-14.

Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jameel Harrison, who picked up 94 receiving yards and one score. Harrison's longest reception was for an incredible 87 yards.

A big part of Armijo's victory came down to the chemistry between Tayjon Harrell (Tj) and his top target Korey Choyce. Harrell (Tj) picked up 105 receiving yards and four touchdowns while Choyce threw for 253 yards and five TDs while completing 76.2% of his passes. Those four receiving touchdowns gave Harrell (Tj) a new career-high. Davion Pickettay helped Choyce out on the ground, rushing for 75 yards on only nine carries, while also picking up 47 receiving yards.

Modesto Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Armijo, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Modesto Christian has already played their next matchup, a 52-18 loss against Mariposa County on the 26th. As for Armijo, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 55-18 defeat against Edison on the 26th.
