Softball Recap: Cailynn Sockwell Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Eastern Guilford

Southeast Guilford barely beat Eastern Guilford the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Southeast Guilford never let Eastern Guilford get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Falcons have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cailynn Sockwell was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Maya Wilson, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3.

Sockwell wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Southeast Guilford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Southeast Guilford's record is now 9-2. As for Eastern Guilford, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southeast Guilford will challenge Grimsley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Grimsley has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.91 runs per game on average), something Southeast Guilford will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Eastern Guilford, they will take on High Point Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
