Softball Recap: Kankakee Valley Comes Up Short

After flying high against South Central on Tuesday, Kankakee Valley came back down to earth. The Kougars fell just short of the Portage Indians by a score of 5-4 on Thursday. The Kougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2019.

Jessica Beauchamp put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Danielle Gidley made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Patience Cole was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Kankakee Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-9 record this season. As for Portage, they pushed their record up to 12-12 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Kankakee Valley and Portage are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Kougars will square off against Lowell at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Portage, they will welcome New Prairie at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
