Baseball Game Preview: John Marshall Monarchs vs. Parkersburg South Patriots

John Marshall hasn't had much luck against Parkersburg South recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Monarchs will challenge the Patriots at 5:00 p.m. Parkersburg South took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on John Marshall, who comes in off a win.

John Marshall hadn't beaten University on the road since March 17, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Monarchs walked away with a 5-1 win over the Hawks.

Hunter Coulter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits.

On the hitting side, Jayden Astipalitis was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Mason Markonich was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Parkersburg South came up short against Copley on Wednesday and fell 17-12.

Ashton Burr was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Eli Davis, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three RBI.

Parkersburg South now has a losing record of 5-6. As for John Marshall, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
