Baseball Recap: Challis Comes Up Short

If Challis was riding high fresh off their 24-3 takedown of West Jefferson last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Vikings took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sugar-Salem Diggers on Saturday. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Diggers recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Garrison Applegate was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Jayden Shepard was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Challis' loss dropped their record down to 7-3-1. As for Sugar-Salem, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4.

Looking ahead, Challis will take on Wendell in a tournament on Thursday. As for Sugar-Salem, they will welcome South Fremont at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.93 runs per game on average), something the Diggers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
