Basketball Recap: Palmetto Takes a Loss

Palmetto was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Port Charlotte Pirates 61-32. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 431st, while the Pirates are ranked 67th).

Despite the loss, Palmetto still got an impressive performance from Sanaii Rich, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. The matchup was Rich's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Jalyrque Murrell also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Even though they lost, Palmetto smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Palmetto's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Port Charlotte, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6.

Palmetto wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 48-32 defeat against Braden River on the 9th. As for Port Charlotte, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-50 win against DeSoto County on the 10th.
