Baseball Game Preview: Coventry Comets vs. Ellet Orangemen

The Coventry Comets will take on the Ellet Orangemen at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Coventry has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Coventry is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Wednesday. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Norton. On the bright side, the six- run effort marked the Comets' highest-scoring game to date.

While Ellet didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past North 19-2 on Wednesday. That 17 run margin sets a new team best for the Orangemen this season.

Andrew Muckleroy made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Muckleroy was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in both of his plate appearances. That run marked the first that he scored this season.

In other batting news, Ellet got a massive performance out of Keaton McKeel, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Josh Sims was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-3.

Ellet always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .652. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Ellet and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Coventry, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Coventry came out on top in a nail-biter against Ellet in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Orangemen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
