It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Sarasota had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the George Jenkins Eagles. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Sailors also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2017.
Cesar Garmendia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sarasota's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Svenson, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Sarasota is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 19 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for George Jenkins, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 19-9.
Sarasota will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
