Softball Recap: Lamar Sets Scoring Season-High Against Westside

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lamar). They blew past the Westside Wolves 16-1 on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Texans also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Leila Ayarzagoitia made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Natalie Giannone was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hailey Hernandez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Lamar hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.

Lamar's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Westside, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lamar will face off against Cesar E. Chavez at 5:00 p.m. on March 4th. As for Westside, they will welcome Bellaire at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
