Basketball Game Preview: Louisiana School for the Deaf War Eagles vs. Berwick Panthers

Louisiana School for the Deaf hasn't had much luck against Berwick recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Louisiana School for the Deaf War Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Berwick Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with 11 defeats in a row, Louisiana School for the Deaf turned things around against False River on Thursday. They strolled past the Gators with points to spare, taking the game 36-20.

Meanwhile, Berwick hadn't done well against St. John recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Berwick managed a 37-32 win over St. John.

Berwick found their leader in sophomore Azyria Garrison, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 21 rebounds. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Garrison has scored at least a third of Berwick's points. Another player making a difference was Shelby Taylor, who posted two points along with eight boards and four steals.

Berwick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Louisiana School for the Deaf's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-12. As for Berwick, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Louisiana School for the Deaf ended up a good deal behind Berwick in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, losing 32-13. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Garrison, who dropped a triple-double on 12 points, 24 rebounds, and 14 steals.
