The Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks will square off against the Shenendehowa Plainsmen at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Saratoga Springs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Saratoga Springs and Averill Park meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Blue Streaks fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 6-4.
Saratoga Springs got a good showing from Michael Kakaty, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Adam Weiss and Alex Landau did some serious damage despite the final result: Weiss got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Landau got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Landau has snagged this season.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Shenendehowa's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Niskayuna.
Shenendehowa saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Prenderville, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Peyton Marszalek was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.
Shenendehowa's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Saratoga Springs, they dropped their record down to 6-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Saratoga Springs' speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Blue Streaks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Shenendehowa, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Saratoga Springs continue to outrun the ball?
Saratoga Springs skirted past Shenendehowa 3-1 in their previous matchup on April 7th. Will the Blue Streaks repeat their success, or do the Plainsmen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
