Baseball Game Preview: Gallatin County Hawks vs. Wayne City Indians

The Gallatin County Hawks will take on the Wayne City Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gallatin County will be strutting in after a win while Wayne City will be coming in after a defeat.

Gallatin County's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over Crab Orchard. Considering the Hawks have won three matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

James Wood was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over 5.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Grant Jackson was incredible, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Kaden Downen was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Wayne City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Mt. Carmel, falling 11-1.

Wayne City's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Gallatin County, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-5 record.

Gallatin County took their win against Wayne City when the teams last played back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 13-3 score. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
