Downingtown West and Avon Grove are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Whippets will welcome the Red Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Downingtown West's offense. They fell just short of Coatesville by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Whippets were not able to get on the board.

Alex Breitfeller was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April.

Meanwhile, Avon Grove unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against East, falling 10-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Red Devils have suffered since April 4th.

Ed Kaufman and Logan Nelson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Kaufman went 3-for-4 with one triple, while Nelson went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Nelson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Ken Askin was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Downingtown West and nudges their season record down to 7-13. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Avon Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
