Soccer Game Preview: Corning vs. Las Plumas

The Corning Cardinals will head out to square off against the Las Plumas Thunderbirds at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Corning is headed into the contest having not lost since December 13 and will look to keep things rolling. Neither they nor Gridley could gain the upper hand on Tuesday so the two teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw. The Cardinals' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Las Plumas' and Oroville's matchup on Tuesday was close at halftime, but Las Plumas turned on the heat in the second half with five goals. Las Plumas never let Oroville onto the board and left with a 6-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Thunderbirds, who have now won six games by three goals or more so far this season.

Their offense was hitting Oroville from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Nathan Grozea led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

The win made it two in a row for Las Plumas and bumps their season record up to 9-1-2. Corning's draw makes their record 10-1-3 this season.

Corning came up short against Las Plumas in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 2-0. Can Corning avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
