Basketball Recap: Mathews Takes Down Westmoreland in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Mathews rose to the challenge on Monday. They skirted past the Westmoreland Eagles 57-54. The victory was familiar territory for the Blue Devils, who have now won three matches in a row.

Mathews' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.2 points over those games. As for Westmoreland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-11.

Looking ahead, Mathews will square off against Northumberland at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northumberland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Mathews likes a good challenge. Westmoreland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
