Softball Preview: Hueytown Golden Gophers vs. Corner Yellow Jackets
After both having extra time off, the Hueytown Golden Gophers and the Corner Yellow Jackets will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hueytown will be strutting in after a victory while Corner will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Thursday, Hueytown was able to grind out a solid win over Hillcrest, taking the game 8-5.

Bryanna Kemp was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
Kemp wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kelsey Johnson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Madison Smith also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Corner suffered their closest loss since February 25th last Thursday. They fell just short of Hayden by a score of 14-12.
Anna Kate Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Mckenzie Cotton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Hueytown's record is now 14-9. As for Corner, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13-1.
Hueytown came out on top in a nail-biter against Corner when the teams last played back in February, sneaking past 10-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hueytown since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
