Basketball Recap: Apex Takes a Loss

Apex lost against Voyager Academy back in December of 2015 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Apex Cougars took a 68-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Voyager Academy Vikings. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Vikings 18-13 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Apex lost, don't look at Zaelyn White. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 19 on his way to 26 points and five steals. With that strong performance, White is now averaging an impressive 15.6 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Scott, who posted eight points.

Will Cameron was nothing short of spectacular for Voyager Academy: he went 8 of 18 on his way to 21 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. That's the most steals Cameron has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was McKinley Hemsley, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Apex dropped their record down to 2-10 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Voyager Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Apex didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-47 loss against Knightdale on the 3rd. As for Voyager Academy, they will head out to challenge Roxboro Community at 6:00 p.m. on January 7th. Voyager Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69.7 points per game this season.
