Softball Recap: Dunlap Gets the Win

Dunlap won the last time they faced Bloomington Central Catholic and things went their way on Saturday too. The Eagles came out on top against the Saints by a score of 6-3.

Kaitlyn Atkinson made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Dunlap let Claire Morris and Lexi Hamer run wild. Morris went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Hamer went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most runs Morris has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Rachel Mies, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Dunlap's victory bumped their record up to 24-5. As for Bloomington Central Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-12.

Looking ahead, Dunlap will host Morton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bloomington Central Catholic, they will square off against Westville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Saints surely won't give up without a fight.
